Mr. Belvel was well known to nearly all of the older residents of Wayne county, having been in the newspaper business and worked at his trade of a printer in nearly every town in this county after the civil war. Read More	Allerton News February 3, 1910 H.M. Belvel died at his home, 1521 Eighteenth St., Des Moines, at 6:00 o'clock Saturday morning, after an illness of some duration. Mr. Belvel was well known to nearly all of the older residents of Wayne county, having been in the newspaper business and worked at his trade of a printer in nearly every town in this county after the civil war. He it was he who started the Wayne County Democrat thirty-one years ago, which he ran for a short time. For many years past he has been a resident of Des Moines, where he was the editor of the Democrat Chronicle and until the last year the editor and publisher of the Grand Army Advocate, which he disposed of about a year ago on account of poor health. Mr. Belvel was a veteran of the Civil war, having been a sergeant in Company F, Thirty-fourth Iowa, and was a member of the G.A.R., being a past commander of Crocker Post, Des Moines, and also past president of the Thirty-fourth Iowa Regiment association. In politics Mr. Belvel was an uncompromising democrat, and for many years furnished the papers of Iowa with a red hot political letter from the state capital. He was the democratic member of the State Voting Machine commission, an office to which he was appointed by Governor Cummins when the commission was first established. Besides his widow Mr. Belvel leaves six children to mourn their loss, all adults, as follows: Mrs. Ninnie Brown, Colo Springs, CO.; Mrs. Hattie Evans, Corydon; Mrs. May Desenburg, Buchanan, MI.; Mrs. Maggie Richter, Des Moines; Frank V. Belvel, Berkley, CA.; E. Rea Belvel, Des Moines, besides several brothers and sisters being in Lineville. the funeral was held from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. H. E. Evans in Corydon, at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, interment being in the Corydon cemetery.__Democrat.
