CLAY The Well Known Colorado Pioneer Passes Away Yesterday Afternoon After combating for two years and a half against the effects of a paralytic stroke, Henry M. Clay died at 3:20 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his residence, 928 East Cooper avenue. Mr. Clay was stricken with paralysis July 2, 1896, and since that time had been but slowly recovering from its effects when, about a month ago, he had a severe fall on the ice when in Glenwood Springs. His wife, son, and daughters were with him when the long-dreaded hour of dissolution at last struck. Henry M. Clay was born in Farmington, St. Francis county, Missouri, on September 27, 1836 and was therefore over 62 years of age. He came to Colorado June 10, 1859 at the time of the Pike's Peak excitement, and passed the remainder of his life in this state, following the fortunes of a miner. On June 19, 1870, at Evans, Weld county, he married Miss Ann E. Farley, who with their three children - Mariza A., Mary P.. and Ed H. survived him. He came to Aspen in 1889, with his family and during the nearly ten years of his residence in this city he has enjoyed the respect and confidence of the community. Mr. Clay was a member of the Society of Colorado Pioneers and Silver City Lodge, No. 92, I.O.O.F. of Colorado Pioneers and Silver City Lodge No. 92 , I .O. O. F. Clay and wife Mariza Musick, who continued to live in St. Francois MO as late as the 1880 census. Henry Clay, at age 33, married Ann Eliza Farley on 19 Jan 1870 while living in Plum, Douglas County, Colorado. When the first post office was established in 1872, Henry was named first postmaster and arranged for the post office to be named Sedalia. The town of Plum was officially renamed Sedalia in 1882 to honor the first postmaster. He passed away on 03 Jan 1899 at age 62.
