Description	:	On June 15, 1813 Henry Norcott, aged 19 from East Windsor, Connecticut, received his Seaman's Protection Certificate #5647. This certificate was a kind of passport issued to seamen after the Revolutionary War, proving that the holder was a United States citizen. It was supposed to protect that person in case he was captured on the high seas by a foreign power, while pursuing a seaman's normal, military or civilian, occupation. Read More	On June 15, 1813 Henry Norcott, aged 19 from East Windsor, Connecticut, received his Seaman's Protection Certificate #5647. It was supposed to protect that person in case he was captured on the high seas by a foreign power, while pursuing a seaman's normal, military or civilian, occupation. But then, according to the September 25, 1815 historical newspaper 'Columbian', and other historic newspapers up and down the east coast, there was an enormous typhoon at the end of August of that year, which sank the good ship Constitution near Washington, North Carolina, belonging to Wolcott and Kilbourn, and carrying a cargo of rum and sugar from Martinique, killing its captain Thomas Warren from Hartford and all of its crew, excepting Reuben Stoddard and Henry Norcott. From the website mysticseaport.org: "Vessel: Constitution (Sloop) - Built: Guilford, 1812 Tonnage: 49 87/95 Length: 56 Beam: 18 ft. 8 in. Draft: 5 ft. 8 in." From the same Mystic Seaport website we learn that the crew for this ill fated journey which departed from New London, Connecticut on June 15, 1815 was: Thomas Warren, Master John Price, Mate George Abby, 2nd mate William Flint Richard Price Tyrone Alderman Henry Norcott Reuben Stoddard Samuel Yeppon Cesar Anderson, Cook Samuel Maynard The next mention of Henry Norcott is in the records of deaths in 'The History of Enfield', Vol.s II and III, by Francis Olcott Allen, 1900. The records of his death are as follows: In the 'History of Enfield' by Francis Olcott Allen, Vol. II, 1900. pg. 1452, Henry Norcott (died Feb. 20, 1845) is listed in the records of the 1st Ecclesiastical Society (and so are many people called Shakers listed on the pages of the 1st Ecclesiastical Society). In the 'History of Enfield' by Francis Olcott Allen, Vol. III, 1900, pg. 2630, we see died: "1845, Feb. 20, Mr. Norcott brother to Robert Abbe's wife...aged 48" Psalms 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” (KJV)
