Henry was born Sept. 3, 1922, in Glen Ullin, the son of Henry Sr. and Christina (Stauss) Wetzel. He was raised and educated in the Glen Ullin area. Henry served with the 1st Infantry Division in North Africa, Normandy, and on D-day, June 6, 1944; he was on Utah Beach with the first wave. He was wounded three times between 1942-1946, receiving the Purple Heart and other military awards. On June 10, 1947, he married Eleanor Schlatter at Glen Ullin. They moved to Mt. Angel, Ore., and then moved back to North Dakota. He worked on the Garrison Dam, and on missile sites for Strukness Construction Co. He also worked for Bechtold Excavating of Minot, and other road construction companies. They moved from Dickinson to Hazen in 1979, where he retired. Henry enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. One of his hobbies was collecting toy caterpillar models. Henry is survived by his wife, Eleanor; two sons, James and Susan, Hazen, and Joel, Dickinson; one daughter, Jenny and Ron Zeller, Dickinson; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Huber and Bertha Klein, both of Glen Ullin, and Irene Schnaidt, Hebron; four brothers, Pete, Clarence and Eddie, all of Glen Ullin, and Oscar, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jerome; and four brothers, Alvin, Rudolph, Paul and Marvin.
