Description	:	born in Germany in late 1739 or 1740. Mary was born in 1746. They emigrated from Germany to America at a young age and became parents of 19 children - two died in infancy and were not named. He bought land in Champaign Co. on Dec. 31, 1805. Jacob and John, Henry's sons, bought land in the county on Nov.4, 1805 and March 25, 1806. Henry and his children were converted to the Baptist faith by Elder John Koontz and the Rev. Martin Kauffman, Sr ; served in Michael Reader's Company in Revolutionary War. Henry and Mary Pence settled in the Mad River Township in Champaign County. Members of the Pence Family who settled here were Benjamin,Isaac, Henry,Abram, John, Samuel, and Reuben. Daughters were Susannah, Annie, Elizabeth, Mary, Magdeline, and Barbara. When Henry was in Germany he was known as "Heinrich Bentz". Henry and Mary's children - some of whom married children of those well-known ministers - and grand-children eventually moved throughout the entire country and their descendants are in many states.
