Mr. Poll became ill last September and he sought medical aid in Sioux City and later at Rochester, Minn., where he submitted to an operation. He was a patient in the Hawarden hospital 10 weeks. Funeral services were held at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the home and at 2 o'clock at the Christian Reformed church with Rev. Gardus Aalberts of Winnebago, Neb., formerly of Ireton, Rev. Russell Esveld and Rev. John Hulst of the Christian Reformed church officiating. Members of the male quartette of the American Reformed church with Mrs. Melvin Bergman as accompanist, sang favorite hymns of the deceased. Clifford Thomas of Sioux City with Leo Juffer as accompanist, sang "Going Home" and "The Lord's Prayer." Pall bearers were Neal Ekdom, Hubert Schmitz, Arthur Bartlett, Jake Ver Hoeven, Arie Van Driel and Henry Netten. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Henry Poll was born February 21, 1897, at Grand Rapids, Mich. He came to Ireton in 1919 after he had completed a mechanical course at Lansing, Mich., and was employed in the John Johnson garage. He married Miss Mae Houlton of Ireton June 14, 1923. After his marriage he farmed for 23 years and then moved to Le Mars where he resided a couple of years. In 1950 he and Hubert Schmitz formed a partnership and since then had operated the International Implement business here. He took an active part in the civic and church affairs in Ireton. For a number of years he served as deacon in the American Reformed church. He was a member of the Ireton school board, the Lions club, the Booster club, and for several years was a director of the Farmers Co-operative association and for many years served on the conservation committee. Besides the widow, he is survived by three children, Mrs. Theodore Van Bruggen of Orange City, Mrs. Anthony Ver Hoeven of Ireton, and Mary Ann, at home; three grandchildren, Thomas and Janet Van Bruggen and Debrah Ver Hoeven; two sisters, Mrs. A. Boerema and Mrs. Andrew Gumstra and one brother, John Poll, all of Grand Rapids, Mich. Poster's note: According to the ancestry.com transcription of the 1925, Iowa census, Henry Poll was the son of Dena (Jurries) and George Poll. Unfortunately the correct image is not associated with the transcription so I have been unable to check that information.
