Oct. 25, 1915 AGED MAN BADLY INJURED Mr. Henry Saint an aged man who lives in rooms in the Howe Apartments, opposite the sand pipe, was run down this evening at the southwest corner of the square by Mr. Asbury Jay, who was driving a Ford touring car. Mr. Saint was seriously injured. Mr. Jay had parked his car on the west side of the the square and had just started for home. He was just making the crossing at the southwest corner heading down South Jefferson street when he noticed the old man in the middle of the street. The old gentleman saw the car and losing his head started first ahead and then back and then ahead and then back. Mr. Jay in trying to dodge the old gentleman kept heading first one way and then the other. The car struck Mr. Saint fairly and with considerable force. He was knocked down and run over. He was at once taken to his rooms and Doctors Laird and Lessenger examined him for injuries. It was found that the left arm was broken just above the wrist while three very serious gashes were found on the scalp. At the time of going to press the seriousness of the injuries cannot be judged but the indications are that the old gentleman is pretty badly hurt and possibly fatally. Mr. Saint is an old soldier and lived alone. He has a sister, Mrs. Delvin living on North Lincoln street. The accident was one of those regrettable ones in which no one can be blamed. The auto was running under regulation speed and the driver did everything possible to avoid the old gentleman, who on account of poor eyesight and hearing was unable to see where he was at or what to do. SAINT Internal Injuries-Has Not regained Consciousness May not Live Another Day The condition of Mr. Henry Saint, the aged soldier who was run over by an automobile on the southwest corner of the square Monday afternoon, is very critical. He has not regained consciousness and his physicians fear that he will hardly live another day. Aside from the fractured arm there are three very serious scalp wounds, one of which took twenty stitches to close and all three being clear to the bone. Aside from this there are evidences of serious internal injuries. No one attaches any blame to Mr. Jay, the driver of the car, as Mr. Saint was so confused in his movements that Mr. Jay could not even guess which way he would dodge next. Mt. Pleasant News Oct. 28, 1915 SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES VICTUM OF AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT PASSED AWAY Mr. Henry Saint, the Old Soldier Who Was Injured on Monday Afternoon Passed Away Shortly After Noon Today. Mr. Henry Saint, the aged veteran, who was knocked down and run over by a Ford touring car on Monday afternoon and who never regained consciousness, passed away at his home in the old Presley Saunders house opposite the standpipe shortly after noon today. The deceased had been for many years a well known figure on the streets of this city and was a member of the local G.A.R. Post, being very faithful in his attendance at the regular meetings. He was born in this county seventy-five year ago and was a member of the 14th Iowa Infantry. He never married and leaves to mourn his loss a brother in California, a sister in northern Iowa and two sisters, Mrs. John Delvan and Mrs. George McNeely of this city. His father before his death several years ago, occupied the farm in Tippecanoe township now owned by Mr. W.T. Wright. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made. Mt. Pleasant was run over by a Ford Driven by Asbury Jay at the southwest corner of the square Mon. evening about four o'clock. In crossing the street he became confused and dodgeback and forth and Mr. Jay tried to avoid him, but couldn't do it, as the old man didn't stand still long enough. The car dragged him and broke an arm and he was bruised badly. He lives in the old rambling house next to Howe Bros. Feed yard. Mt. Pleasant Weekly News-Journal, Mount Pleasant, IA, Nov. 3, 1915 Funeral Services of Henry Saint Denova, Ia., Oct. 29 (Special),--Sad and very impressive were the burial rites over the remains of the late Henry Saint, conducted here at Cedar cemetery Friday morning at eleven thirty by the Rev. Thos. Osborn, of the M. E. Church, assisted by Rev. Geo. J. McClellan of the Friends church here. The remains were in charge of the G.A.R. and members of the W.R.C. Many year ago Mr. Saint was a resident of this neighborhood, this prior to the death of his parents, whose remains were also intered in this cemetery. The members of the G.A. R., who were present are C. W. Milner, Benjamin Brown, W. B. Porter, John W. Hinkson, Lou Fenton, John Shumaker, Milton Rhodes and W. P. Young. Mrs. Saint leaves to mourn his loss three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Geo Meneeley of North Jay street, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Margaret Delvin, North Lincoln street; Mrs. Mary Huston (ed.-Husted) of Murry, Ia., and Frank Saint of neal El Paso, Cal., aside from many other near relatives and warm friends. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved family.
