Reimer Jr., 91 years pf age, of Beatrice, NE. passed away at Parkview Center in Beatrice, NE. Friday morning, September 24, 2004. He was born on November 16, 1912 in Newton, Kansas. He graduated from Holmesville High School in Holmesville, NE. and attended Bethel College in Newton, Kansas. He and Elizabeth Bookwalter were married on September 7, 1941 at the home of her parents in Bookwalter, NE. They were in the Civilian Public Service (CPS) in California in 1942 and in 1944 he was camp director of the CPS camp in Fort Collins, Colorado and also in Norristown, PA. He moved to Beatrice, NE. in 1946. He was the administrator at the Beatrice Community Hospital in Beatrice from 1957 to 1976 and was volunteer director of the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation from 1975 until 1984. As administrator of the Beatrice Community Hospital, the hospital started the second Nebraska Home Health Agency in 1965; was one of the first hospitals in Nebraska to start the Long Term Care Unit in 1958-1959; and he oversaw the construction project from 1967-1970 when the east wing of the hospital was built. He was a past member on the Nebraska Hospital Association and served as their president from November 1962 until October 1963. He was a member of the Beatrice Mennonite Church in Beatrice, NE. and past member of the Kiwanis Club in Beatrice, NE. He enjoyed baseball, flying airplanes, traveling, attending Elder Hostel Seminars, and going out to eat. Survivors include several nieces and nephews; and sister in laws Nadine Reimer of Beatrice, NE. and Esther Reimer of Rancho Mirage, California. He was preceded in death by his parents Reverend Henry T. and Justina (Claassen) Reimer Sr.; wife Elizabeth (11-29-1999); and brothers Edgar and Don Reimer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 27, 2004 at the Beatrice Mennonite Church in Beatrice, NE. with Reverend Denton R. Jantzi officiating. Interment will be in the Mennonite Cemetery, R. Beatrice, NE. The body will lie in state Sunday from 12:00-9:00 and Monday from 9:00-12:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. and at the church one hour preceding the service. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 P.M. Monday at the church. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Mennonite Church and the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation with Bill Boyce and Harlan Hubka in charge. Messages of condolence may be sent to [email protected] They will be forwarded to the family. The Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. is in charge of the services.
