Henry Theewen, resident of Butler county for 54 years, passed away at 9:00 a. m. Thursday morning, Jan. 1, at the home of his nephew, Philip Theewen, and Mrs. Theewen, in North David City. He was a sufferer from diabetes and his last illness was of two weeks duration, he being bedfast the last week of his life. He had made his home among his relatives for many years and had been in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Theewen for the past year and a half. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, Saturday morning, Jan. 3, at 9:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Father Wageman. The pallbearers were Mathew, Gilbert, Carl and Harold Theewen and Lewis and Joseph Rutten, gteat-nephews of Mr. Theewen. Burial was in the St. Francis Catholic cemetery, Center township. Those in attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Van Ert of Elgin and their son-in-law from Oakdale, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Theewen of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Van Ert of Oakdale, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zuringman and children of Peterburg, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Van Ert of Norfolk, Henry Van Ert, Jr., of Neligh and Louie Van Ert and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Van Ert of Elgin. Mr. Theewen was aged 72 years, 7 months and 16 days at time of his death. He was born at Bitterswijk Province, Limberg, Nederland, Holland, on May 14, 1858. He came to Butler county with his parents in 1876. He was unmarried. Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. Anton Lettellier of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Henry Van Ert of Elgin. A kindly man, uncomplaining in his illness, Mr. Theewen had made many friends during his lifetime wherever he went.
