(Mrs. Roy Christensen), Blanche, Irene (Mrs. Howard Key), Lonita (Mrs. Harold Ely) OBITUARY - HENRY THEODORE RAUCH Lamoni Chronicle, Lamoni, IA, Thurs, 2/18/1943, pg3 Henry Theodore Rauch, son of Elizabeth Catherine (Roberts) Rauch and Anton Rauch, was born in Burrell Township, Decatur County, Iowa, February 28, 1858. He was one of ten children, seven of whom preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Zelda May Renner, March 18, 1888. To this union were born eight children, one son, Edwin, who died in infancy and Anthony, who passed away at the age of 27 years. From a child he took great interest in farming and when a young man he determined to work and sacrifice to acquire land of his own. Even though he had various enterprises during his life, his farming remained foremost and he was able to continue active in it until a few months ago. He served many years in the capacity of President of the State Bank of Decatur at Decatur City, Iowa, and was at the head of the Iowa-Missouri Grain Company, which later became the Rauch Grain and Seed Company. In recent years he was associated with the Decatur County National Loan Association, as president, and with the Lamoni Sales Corporation. Mr. Rauch was possessed of exceptional traits of character and of friendly and genial personality. His optimism, even when some disappointment or disaster came, was inspiring to members of his family and many friends. Among business associates he was admired for his sound judgment and more especially for fair dealing and honesty. About a year ago Mr. Rauch suffered injuries in a fall and very soon his health began to fail. For the past few months he was confined to his home, where he was lovingly cared for by his companion and children. He was bedfast but two days when he passed away from a heart condition, at his home in Lamoni, Thursday, February 4, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 24 days. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Henry C. of Des Moines and Earl H. of Lamoni; four daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Roy Christensen) of Los Angeles, Calif , Miss Blanche Rauch of Chicago, Ill , Irene (Mrs. Howard Key) who at present is living in the family home, Lonita (Mrs. Harold Ely) of Des Moines; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Teale of Mt. Ayr and Mrs. Sally Reed of Springfield, Mo., and one brother, Clarence Rauch, of San Diego, Calif., and numerous other relatives. The late Mr. Rauch lay in state at the residence in Lamoni Saturday morning, at which time this many old friends came in to see him. At noon a short service was conducted at the home by Wilber Prall, a personal friend of Mr. Rauch. The regular service was held at the Slade Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with Dr. Roy Cheville officiating. The impressive sermon was woven around a favorite poem of Mr. Rauch— "The Bridge Builder" by Will Allen Dromgoole... Mrs. Arthur Derry of Lamoni sang two solos— "Crossing the Bar" and "Leave It With Him." Mrs. Edgar Hines of Leon played the recessional. Interment was in the family plot at Elk Chapel Cemetery.
