The funeral was held at the home Saturday at 1 p. m., Rev. O. M. Bond conducting the services. The Spencer M. E. church choir furnished music for the occasion. Annett Post, G.A.R., attended in a body. The neighbors and friends turned out largely to attend the last sad rites and express their esteem for him who had forever passed from among them. Many beautiful floral emblems testified of loving friends. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Mr. Thuirer was born in Grant county, Wis., May 10th, 1829. On the 10th day of Oct., 1864, he enlisted in the 8th Illinois cavalry, and was discharged July 17th, 1865, after the war had closed. He came with his family to Clay county the spring of 1881, settling on a farm in Summit township, and lived here until death claimed him Sept.23d, 1908. He leaves a wife, one son and wife, four sisters, four brothers, and a wide circle of friends to cherish his memory and mourn his loss. He was a quiet man, who made but little noise in the world, and yet he was active and loyal to his own, to his community and the world. Clay County News, Spencer, Clay County, Iowa; October 1, 1908.
