Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Henry Timmer was born near Hudson, S.D., on July 17, 1908, to Dick and Gertrude (Haarsma) Timmer. He was raised and attended country school near Chatsworth, Iowa. As a young man, he worked for area farmers. On Sept. 1, 1934, he was united in marriage to Fern Marie Van Buskirk at Elk Point, S.D. Following their marriage, Hank and Fern first lived near Hawarden, where Hank farmed for nearly 25 years. They farmed near Onawa, Iowa, for three years before moving to a farm near Hinton, Iowa. After retiring, Hank and Fern moved to Franken Manor in Sioux Center in July 1977. Fern preceded Henry in death on Nov. 19, 1985. Hank was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church while living near Hawarden and Peace Lutheran Church and Hope Lutheran Church while in Sioux Center. Hank thoroughly enjoyed life and was known for his wonderful sense of humor. He was a friend to everyone and always had a smile on his face. He was a hard worker with a strong work ethic. Hank was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He cherished the time spent with his family. Surviving are his six children, Marlowe (Carol) Timmer of Schaller, Iowa, Myrna Stading of Anthon, Iowa, Bernice Masquat of Sioux Center, Norma (Larry) McNaughton of Tampa, Fla., Rhonda DeBoer of Sioux City, and Shirley (John) Bowman of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Harriet Newman of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald Timmer, and Raymond Timmer as an infant; three brothers, Albert, Dick and John Timmer; and four sisters, Jennie Beck, Clara Shannon, Frankie Harmelink and Alberta Altena.
