Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Helen Rose; sons, Harvey Oltmanns and wife Janice of Wilton and Dennis Oltmanns and wife Betty of Cedar Rapids; five sisters, Catherine (Alvin) Licht, Emma Lange, Annie (Ed) Hintz all of Lowden, Martha (Martin) Winch and Alberta (Marvin) Boysen, both of Marion; a brother, Ervin (Marcia) Oltmanns of Marion; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ludwig; and a sister, Lena. Henry was born June 5, 1923, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Albert and Anna (Hinrichs) Oltmanns. He attended schools in the Anamosa area. On Aug. 4, 1944, Henry and Helen Rose Kernen were united in marriage in Monticello. They spent many years farming and upon retirement bought a motor home and spent every winter in Nevada. Their grandchildren would come to visit and have many fond memories of fishing, playing cards and laughing with their grandfather. Henry enriched the lives of his family with the stories he told and the lessons he taught. He will be remembered for his keen mind. He was a loving husband and father who was especially proud of his two sons and their wives. He was also a loving grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed by those closest to him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the neighbors, friends, and relatives for their help through this difficult time and during his long illness. Special thanks also goes out to the wonderful care from Above and Beyond Hospice and doctors Chandra and Kilburg.
