The following is transcribed from pages 112-113 of A History of Nemaha County 1987 Henry Vaughn Black was born June 2, 1867, Grant Precinct near Brock. Clara Menetta Armstrong was born March 9, 1870. Vaughn and Clara were married in Auburn, February 10, 1887, and made their home next to his parents on the hill near the present water tank, in Brock. Vaughn's first job was peddling groceries, etc., from a red cart pulled by two white horses which he drove between Brock and Auburn. After he married, he worked for mortcians, J. W. Armstrong, Auburn and Tom Bell, Brock. He lined the wooden caskets with white material according to the price charged. He later became a tinsmith and plumber erecting many windmills and inventing articles of tin His first shop was at the north end of Main Street. When the family lost the hill property during the 1930's Depression, Vaughn moved his shop into another home down town. This house now stands in Coryell park as it was the first home of L. L. Coryell. H. V. was Deacon, caretaker and faithful servant in the Christian Church, as was Clara. She also spent much time caring for the sick and the new born babies. Vaughn held other positions in the community. He was County Assessor, secretary of Lafayette Cemetery board, and member of the school board for 15 years. When Vaughn made the copper box for the cornerstone of the present school building, Clara donated her mother's Bible which Mary A. Armstrong used when teaching classes before there was an organized school in Brock. Vaughn died August 20, 1934. Clara remained in Brock until her health failed, she moved to Lincoln where she died in 1956. Both rest in the Lafayette Cemetery, along with some of their children.
