Refer, with the Rev. Martin Greer officiating. Glen sang, "Abide With Me" accompanied by Mrs. Glen Schwiebert. Several instrumental numbers were also part of the service. Following regular service the Masonic rites were solemnized with Dr. L. J. Bellegante in charge and 25 other members of the lodge in the line of march. Pall bearers were Mr. Refer's four sons and two grandsons: Donald and Everett Refer. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. A son of John Henry and Anna Refer, he was born in Victor April 19, 1877. He died at his home here on Jan. 2 after on illness of several years duration. On Apr. 16, 1900, he was married to Mary Schlesselman in St. John's Lutheran church in Lincoln township. They made their home on a farm in that township and later in Hartford township, moving to the present home in Victor in 1919. Here they have since resided. Mr. Refer served as township trustee in Lincoln township. After moving to Victor he was for a number of years a member of the board of education. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Victor and received his 32nd degree in Davenport in 1926. Mr. Refer was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Included among the survivors are his widow; four sons, William of Victor, Clarence F. of Kansas City, MO., Lawrence H. of Glendale, CA., and Henry C. of Burbank, CA; two daughters, Mrs. Leota Kreutz of Glendale, CA., and Mrs. Clare Marie Hahn of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Lena Fessler of Victor; 10 grandchildren and one great grandson. --------------------------------------------------- Parents: John Roever and Anna Fragey Roever (The name was first spelled "Roever," then changed to Rover, then to Reefer, and finally to Refer.
