To this union were born five survivng children, three sons, and two daughters: Maxey, Ralph, Sadie, Virginia and H.W.B. Jr. He is also survived by three grandchildren and one great grandchild, and by two brothers W. Clerk and Corbet Mullins and one sister, Mrs. Jack Barker. Beecher, as he was known to all his friends, was educated in the public schools of Boone County where he was also a teacher in his early adult life. Later he attended the Southern Normal at Huntington TN and the College of Law of West Virginia University. He was admitted to practice law in Boone County 1901 and practiced law until his death. For a number of sessions of the State Senate, he served as assistant to the clerk under the late John T. Harris. In 1916 and again in 1920 he was elected prosecuting attorney of Boone County, serving two full terms. He was again elected in 1944. He was a member of the Madison Methodist Church and of the West Virginia State Bar. He believed in justice tempered with mercy. He was an ardent reader of the Bible and often quoted from it. He, under Divine Control, left this world for a better one, where there is no crime, but where all is well and good. Great was his fall, but his memory will be greater. Services were held at the residence with the Rev. Clyde Hensley officiating. Burial was in the Boone Memorial Park. Pallbearers were M.R. Ellis, W.C. Ross, Fred Haddad, Paul Turley, Bernie Williams, Thomas Barker, Estes McKinney, Elmer Covert, Jack Moyer, Thomas Bingham, Don Price and J.C. McVery. Beecher began teaching school at age 16 and was paid $30 a month. He also was elected as prosecuting attorney for Boone County for several years.(1916, 1920, 1944). He once represented Devil Anse Hatfield, according to his son Maxey Mullins. Beecher Mullins was named for the famous minister Henry Ward Beecher.
