Services were at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton, Iowa, with Pastor Kurt Seboe officiating. Henry William was born on January 8, 1920, in Ewing, Nebraska, the son of Chris and Olga (Rosenburg) Weifenbach. He moved to the Mapleton area as a young boy and remained here his entire life. He was united in marriage to Pearl Creese in the late 1940s. She passed away on February 9, 1955. On August 6, 1963, he married Maureta (Stratton). Henry's life was filled with many jobs which consisted of road construction, building grain elevators, and watershed projects. These jobs took him to many different states. He was also one of the crew members who helped build the original Mapleton swimming pool. Henry entered the Army on February 7, 1942. He served in Normandy, Northern France, and Central Europe. He had decorations of the Victory medal, European Africap, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze battle stars, the Good Conduct medal, 6 overseas service bars, and 1 service stripe. He was honorably discharged on November 17, 1945. Henry enjoyed his grandchildren. He liked woodworking, fishing for catfish, going for walks, watching John Wayne movies, and his cups of coffee. He had a great passion for bowling with many trophies to show for it. He also enjoyed watching his garden grow every year. Survivors include three sons, James Weifenbach of South Haven, MS, William Weifenbach and his wife, Judy of Hope Mills, NC, and Edwin Regennitter of York, NE; four daughters, Peg Kunkel of Mapleton, IA, Sharon Petersen of Anita, IA, Sue Chisolm of Grand Junction, CO, and Patti Smith and her husband, Larry of Mapleton, IA; 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl; three daughters, Judy, Myra and one in infancy; six brothers, Bill, Baby Carl, Carl, Alfred, George and Chris; five sisters, Anna, Alma, Frieda, Marie and Louise, and four grandchildren, Thomas, Jordan, Ellie and Sophie. Pallbearers were Dennis Muckey, Sheldon Jacobson, Jason Petersen, Kenny Kunkel, Ethan Smith, Justin Petersen, Donald Eggert and John Keim.
