Description	:	s/o James & Sallie Chappell H. W. Chappell, 83, passed away at his home in the Woodlawn section, on Friday, October 2nd. The deceased was a son of the late James Chappell, who fought in the Confederate Army in the Civil War, and wife, Mrs. Sally Jones Chappell. He was the last surviving member of the family. Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Chappell was married to Miss. Linia A.Minor, who died December 28, 1909. Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Chappell was married to Miss. Linia A.Minor, who died December 28, 1909. No children were born to this union, although an adopted daughter, Mrs. Janie Pope of nearby Galax survives. The deceased had lived alone most of the time, at the old home, since the death of his wife. The father of the deceased, who has been referred to as a brave Confederate soldier and pioneer, is said to have traveled across the country and back by covered wagon in the "pioneer days." "Squire" Chappell, as the deceased was known by many, served as a Justice of the Peace for many years. He also served as Constable. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, the 3rd, by Rev. Edwin C. Berwanger, pastor of the Woodlawn Methodist charge, and Rev. E. B. Randall, pastor of the Hillsville Methodist charge, in the presence of a large congregation of friends and relatives. Burial was in the cemetery at Liberty church by the grave of the wife of the deceased.
