The Family moved to Cardston in 1918 where he resided until his passing November 18th, 1983. He married Jean Burton in 1949. He was rector of Emergency Measures Organization from 1961 to 1970 (Civil defence). Herald was president of the Cardston branch of the Canadian Legion No. 170 for two terms, 1957 to 1958. He served two terms as Zone Commander for the Canadian Legion. He served on the Cardston Town Council for two firms, 1964 to 1970 and was chairman of the Police Commission and worked on Public Works and the Finance Committee. He is survived by his wife, Jean ; one daughter, two sons, Phoebe Spencer of Cardston; one sister Hrs. William K. (Edith) Sloan of St. George Utah; one brother, Dean (Sue) Smith of Cardston Predeceased by his father, Thomas; and two sisters Thora and Ruth
