He was born on February 17, 1923, in Howard County, the son John Wesley & Verda (Shrock) Horner. On November 25, 1949, he Married Dorothy E. Bridges and she survives. Read More	Herbert Horner, 92, Westfield, passed away at 5:10 pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at his home. He was born on February 17, 1923, in Howard County, the son John Wesley & Verda (Shrock) Horner. On November 25, 1949, he Married Dorothy E. Bridges and she survives. Herb was a graduate of Greentown High School. He served in the U.S. Army Paratroopers during WWII as a Sgt. of communications from November 30, 1944 to November 17, 1946, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the Army of Occupation Ribbon for serving in Japan. On July 15, 1970, Zona Mae Bontrager, his only sister, gave Herb one of her kidneys. He was one of the oldest living with a transplant. He retired from Chrysler Corporation as a machine operator. Herb is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. Horner, Westfield; sons, William Joseph (Janie) Horner, Windfall, and Dana Eugene (Elizabeth) Lafayette; daughters, Doris (Bruce) Moss, Bradenton, FL, Myra (Jeff) Newman, Kokomo, and Beth (Myron) Moorman, Cicero; brothers, Mark O. (Ruthie) Horner, Kokomo, Glen (Thelma) Horner, Middlebury, and Johnny (Judy) Horner, Greentown, along with 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Aaron Helton, sister, Zona Bontrager , brothers, Bob Horner, Wilburt Horner, Gene Horner, and Paul Horner. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor David Leeder officiating. Burial will follow in Mast-Hensler Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-8 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Herb’s memory to the American Kidney Foundation.
