Read More	Obituary From “The Ottumwa Courier,” Tuesday, March 29, 1994: Herbert Leon DRAKESVILLE – Herbert C. “Monk” Leon, 90, of Drakesville Route 1, died at 3:20 p.m. March 26, 1994, at the home of his daughter, Donna Kendall, with whom he lived. He was born July 4, 1903, in Ottumwa to William Henry and Marianna Cook Leon. He married Marjorie V. Buchanan on Dec. 2, 1930, in Centerville. She died Jan. 24, 1969. He served in the Navy and was a resident of Ottumwa most of his life, also having lived in Tucson, Ariz. He was an employee of John Morrell & Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1968. He was a 50-year member of Empire Masonic Lodge No. 269 AF&AM Davenport Consistory, KAABA Shrine, Ottumwa Chapter No. 112 Order of Eastern Star, Wapello White Shrine and Low 12. He is survived by three daughters, Dorothy A. Walker of Greeley, Colo., Donna M. Kendall of Drakesville, Route 1 and Wilma M. Morrison of Baring, Mo.; a son, Tommy R. Leon of Ottumwa; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Harvey, Charles, Frank, Robb and Harry Leon; and four sisters, Maude Merringer, Hazel Leon, Vadis Christy and Isabelle Rector. The service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, the Rev. Mel L. Kendall of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Agency Cemetery. A masonic service will be held at the grave. Visitation is open after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Art Johnson, Dean Frymoyer, Gerald Leon, Hershal Dingeman, Edward Liggett and Tony Leon. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church.
