Description	:	EMPORIA -- Herbert Clinton Wright, 84, of Emporia, formerly of Gridley, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at a hospital here. He had lived at the Presbyterian Manor since October 1997. He was born March 2, 1914, in Hickory, Mo., to Robert Ernest and Eva Lena Perdue Wright, and moved to Kansas with his parents at an early age. He lived in the Madison and LeRoy communities. He worked at the LeRoy alfalfa mill, in oil fields near LeRoy and in bridge construction. He lived from 1958 to 1968 in Fort Collins, Colo., where he was employed by the Great Western Sugar Co.... He was born March 2, 1914, in Hickory, Mo., to Robert Ernest and Eva Lena Perdue Wright, and moved to Kansas with his parents at an early age. He lived in the Madison and LeRoy communities. He worked at the LeRoy alfalfa mill, in oil fields near LeRoy and in bridge construction. He lived from 1958 to 1968 in Fort Collins, Colo., where he was employed by the Great Western Sugar Co. He moved to Gridley where he was city water superintendent until 1981 when he moved to Olpe. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army in Sicily and Italy. He had received the Croix de Guerre with palm and Bronze Service Arrowhead medal. He was a former member of the Assembly of God. He married Elizabeth Jane Shirley on Dec. 20, 1952, in Bentonville, Ark. She died July 30, 1995. A grandson, Clinton Lee Wright, also preceded him in death. Survivors include sons, Clinton Wright, Topeka, and Edward Wright, Olpe; daughters, Ellen Wunch, Timnath, Colo., Paula Vogts, Olpe, and Tammy McHaley, Emporia; a brother, Lloyd Wright, LeRoy; sisters, Bessie Steele, LeRoy, Vivian Eccles, Gridley, and Wahnetta Reinerson, Carterville, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Military graveside services will follow at LeRoy Cemetery in LeRoy. Mr. Wright will lie in state from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Manor in Emporia, 66801.
