Born in Herreid, South Dakota to Leonhart and Wilhelmina Deibert, Herb was the youngest of 17 children, all who have preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Greta; his son, Dennis and wife, Sandy, of Mountlake Terrace, Washington; his son, Daniel, of Arlington, Washington; daughter, Holly Burton and fiancé, Ken Wilmer, of Arlington; and three stepchildren, Laura, Doug and Steve. He will be greatly missed by his five grandchildren, Sabrina (George), of Lynnwood, Washington; Tyson, of Everett, Washington; Tiffany (Bryan), of Chewelah, Washington; Heidi (Bryan), of Northglenn, Colorado and Erika, of Everett, Washington. Also missed by six great-grandchildren, Shayla, Dannielle, Wesley, Tobias, Kylie and Hendrik. Herb also leaves behind numerous relatives and friends he so dearly loved. Herb served eight years in the U.S. Army. He was a Mess Sergeant while deployed to Japan and the Philippines during World War II. He was a proud member of the VFW in Lake Stevens and Lynnwood, holding several positions such as Poppy Chairman and District Commander. He owned and operated "Herb's Barber Shop" for over 30 years in the Lynnwood area. After retiring he went to auctioneering school in Montana. He opened JD's auction in south Everett for a couple of years. He was an avid deer and elk hunter with his sons and loved salmon fishing in Puget Sound and out of Westport. Herb and Greta were snowbirds to Yuma, Arizona for several years, loving the weather, numerous friends and activities it provided. Herb grew up in a time where a man kept his word and was honest. He never forgot those were the things that made you a man among men. He loved his family and his Lord above everything and relished in each goal and achievement of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. There will never be a more loved, respected or admired man in our lives. We will love and miss you, Dad, always and forever. He always had a joke to tell, a smile to share or a helping hand if you needed him. We are very proud to call him our Dad and Best Friend. Herb resided at Merrill Gardens Assisted Living in Stanwood the past year. Heartfelt gratitude to Diane, Margaret, Beth, Amy, Sharie, Karen and everyone who had a smile to share, kind words to say, or a caring touch which helped his days a little easier to get through. Rosary for Herbert will be at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2008, at Beck's Funeral Home, 405 Fifth Ave. So, Edmonds (425)771-1234. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 15, 2008, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 22209 – 58th Ave. W, Mountlake Terrace, WA. Interment following at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205th St., Shoreline, WA. Then please join the family back at the church hall for lunch and celebration of Herb's life.
