Read More	Thanks to contributor #47064119 Grand Island Daily Independent 13 September 1894 Killed By The Cars The following particulars of the death of Herbert Martin, a nephew of Mrs. John Fonner, who was killed in Central City, is given in the last issue of the Republican: "All unannounced and like a bolt from a clear sky our community was startled Friday morning by the information that young Herbert Martin, bill clerk at the U. P. Ry Depot had been killed while coupling cars there. It appears that on that morning at about seven o'clock, while the freight train was doing some switching near the depot, he undertook to couple some cars of railroad iron for the brakeman of the train and was caught and jammed by a projecting rail, so severely that he died two hours later. The young man has grown up here and his character gave every promise of a useful and prosperous future and our community mourns his untimely death. the funeral was held at the M. E. church today."
