Herbert was a United States Army Veteran who proudly served his country during Korea. Read More	Herbert Elmer Carr, 81, of Tyro, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at his home. Born July 10, 1937, he was a son of the late Elmer and Maude Agnes Fitzgerald Carr. Herbert was a United States Army Veteran who proudly served his country during Korea. He worked for many years at Buffalo Forge, was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church, and had also been an avid hunter. Herbert had a strong work ethic that he carried throughout his entire life. Even during the past ten years, he found it difficult to make peace with his declining health and to let go. However, his family was the center of all he did with his grandchildren being the light of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Brenda Jordan Carr; sons, John Elmer Carr (Joanne) of Warner Robins, Ga., and Dave Jefferson Carr of Staunton; a daughter, Sheila Carr Layton (William) of Tyro; nephews, Scott Carr, Mike Carr, and Hank Carr; grandchildren, Amanda Painter Goff, Coty Michael Painter, Morgan John Carr, Olivia Bradshaw Layton, William Keith Layton Jr., Savanna Christine Carr, and Shelby Charlene Dixon; a great-grandson, Kye Alexandar Goff; loving sisters-in-law, Sandra Beard, Sara Jacobs (Joe), and Barbara Baker (Ernie); loving brothers-in-law, Jerry Jordan (Goldie), and Herbert Danny; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Carr and Richard Carr. A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Massies Mill Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Jonesboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Nelson County Food Pantry, P.O. Box 353, Lovingston, VA 22949.
