Herbert Emmanuel Christman was born Nov. 4, 1918, to John and Katie (Kessler) Christman in Adams County. Herb attended and graduated from Haynes High School in 1937; he then attended Capitol Commercial College in Bismarck. In 1940, he began working at Modern Machine Works, and after 43 years, he retired in 1983. He married Esther Rivinius on Nov. 14, 1943. Esther died in January 1960.
