Madison and six grandchildren, Joy, Katie and Lisa Stein and Chantelle, Annaliese and Elizabeth Stein. Friends and relatives are invited to the reception. The couple requests no gifts, please. (picture) Herbert E. Stein, 82, of Denmark died at 1:56 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at his home. Born Sept. 14, 1928, in Lee County, he was the son of Harry S. and Vera Gehle Stein. On Oct. 18, 1952, he married Bonnie L. Van Horn in Burlington. Mr. Stein worked 25 years as a journeyman machinist at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, 10 years at Murray Iron Works and later for Burlington Northern in West Burlington. He served in the Army during the Korean War and served 30 years in Iowa National Guard. He was a member of Denmark United Church of Christ, American Legion and Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sandy Lozano of Burlington and Lindia Stein of Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Joel Stein of Eagle Grove and Curtis Stein of Fort Madison; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ted Stein of Fort Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers two sisters. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Stein will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory, with the Rev. Chad Savage officiating. Burial will be in Denmark Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Denmark Fire and Rescue.
