Born in Scarborough, a son of Herbert Frank and Emily Temms Clarke Sr., he served in World War II and the Korean War in the Navy and the Marine Corps. He was a member of the Amvets Post in New Gloucester. Mr. Clarke worked for the town of Scarborough for 12 years and in 1984, retired from the Maine Turnpike Authority's maintenance department after 14 years. Surviving, besides his mother of Westbrook, are his second wife, Hazel M. Pelletier Clarke; a son, David Clarke of Gorham; four stepsons, Denis Pelletier of Augusta, Frederick Pelletier of Buxton, Reginald Pelletier of Clearwater, Fla., and Paul Pelletier of Gorham; six daughters, Linda Stevens of New Gloucester, Cheryl Greene of Scarborough, Deborah Lothrop of Alabama, Shirley Girald of Hollis, Kimberly Darling of Scarborough, Tammy Garland of South Carolina; two stepdaughter, Jacki Himes of Casco and Carolyn Pelletier of Casco; four sisters, Laura Plummer, Helen Garding and Marion Clarke, all of Westbrook and Marilyn Bennett of Boston; four brothers, Niles of Scarborough, John of Dover-Foxcroft, Walter of Windham and William Clarke of Mississippi; 28 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
