Description	:	Herb grew up on his parents' farm north of Hazen, where he enjoyed working with horses. In the summer time, he loved to swim in the creek behind the barn and skate on it in the winter. These two sports he passed on to his children. Herb married Lydia Miller on Jan. 3, 1929, at Krem. They farmed north of Hazen from 1929 to 1934. Read More	Herb grew up on his parents' farm north of Hazen, where he enjoyed working with horses. In the summer time, he loved to swim in the creek behind the barn and skate on it in the winter. These two sports he passed on to his children. Herb married Lydia Miller on Jan. 3, 1929, at Krem. They farmed north of Hazen from 1929 to 1934. In 1934, they moved to Fort Peck, Mont., where Herb was employed in the construction of the dam. In 1937 they moved to Beulah, where Herb was employed driving a dray wagon, hauling ash. In 1939 he was hired by the MDU electric generating plant in Beulah. He was employed there until his retirement in 1971 at the age of 65. Herb was an IBEW Union member for 60 years. He loved to golf and did so up to the age of 93. Herb enjoyed woodworking and built many family treasures including doll houses, play barns and rocking horses. He was also the community handyman. For Herb's 75th birthday, he received a pool table and challenged all, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to a game of cut throat or 8-ball. He was a loving father and grandfather, and the family will miss Herb and Lydia at their many family gatherings.
