Read More	Obituary March 3, 1966 \| Sioux Center News (IA) Front page and continued on last page Funeral Services Held Monday for Herbert Koel, 63 Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church here at 10:30 a.m. Monday for Herbert Koel, 63, long-time Sioux Center resident, who died at the Sioux Center Community hospital Friday after a long illness. Services were conducted by the Rev. Harry Brower and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral home. A brief service attended by immediate members of the family was held at the Vander Ploeg Funeral chapel preceding the service at the church. Mr. Koel was born at Rock Valley September 2, 1902. He was married to Hattie Kuhl October 22, 1923, at Rock Rapids and to this union five children were born. One son, Dick, preceded him in death in infancy. The other children are Delphus Koel of Winifred, S. D., Jacoba (Mrs. Albert Rens) of Hull, Donald Koel of Engelwood, Colo., and Anna (Mrs. Cornie Jansen) of Rock Valley. Mrs. Koel passed away December 30, 1942. On April 5, 1949, Mr. Koel was united in marriage with Jennie Niessink and to this union two sons were born, Derrick A., who is at home, and Herbert, Jr., who passed away in 1957. There are 16 grandchildren. Other survivors include the following brothers and sisters: Jennie (Mrs. Abe DeGroot) of Sioux Center, Mary (Mrs. Neal Schuller) of Orange City, Jane (Mrs. Bert Kamerman) of Sioux Center, John of Rock Rapids, Edward of Milwaukee, Wis., Peter of Alvord and Tracy (Mrs. Art Van Ravanhorst) of Sioux Center. One brother, Nicholas, preceded him in death in 1958. Mr Koel had served as deacon of the Doon Reformed church. Mr. Koel worked for the city of Sioux Center for four years prior to his illness of almost two years.
