Description	:	CLARYSVILLE - Herbert L. Knepp, 84, of 16410 Clarysville Road, Frostburg, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland. Born Oct. 23, 1913, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Charles and Rella (Beeman) Knepp. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Knepp; and one granddaughter, Janet Frost. Mr. Knepp retired after 41 years with the Celanese Fibers Corporation where he worked in the spinning department. Knepp, 84, of 16410 Clarysville Road, Frostburg, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland. Born Oct. 23, 1913, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Charles and Rella (Beeman) Knepp. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Knepp; and one granddaughter, Janet Frost. Mr. Knepp retired after 41 years with the Celanese Fibers Corporation where he worked in the spinning department. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in the South Pacific. He was an active member of the Church of the Brethren, Frostburg. He was a charter member of the Clarysville Volunteer Fire Department since 1942 and has held all the offices in the department and attended 50 consecutive Firemen's State Conventions. In 1975 he was Fireman of the Year for the Clarysville Volunteer Fire Department and was voted into the Allegany and Garrett County Fireman's Hall of Fame. Mr. Knepp was an avid sportsman. He was past president of the Maryland Wildlife Association, and he was a member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club and the Haystack Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #348, Frostburg, and the Old Rail Post #6025 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mount Savage. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Lydia (Wigfield) Knepp; one daughter, Barbara Gwaltney, New Bern, N.C.; one son, Wayne H. Knepp, Hollywood; two grandchildren, Donald Frost, Frederick and Judy Frost, New Bern; and one great-granddaughter. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 8 p.m. by the Clarysville Volunteer Fire Department. The funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Rick Riley and the Rev. T. William Preston officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.
