HERBERT LEE "LEE" CALIMER, 84, formerly of 14391 Charmian Road, Waynesboro, PA, died at 5:05 A.M., Friday, May 19, 2006, in the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA. Born November 10, 1921 in Lantz, MD, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Wastler) Calimer. He lived his early life in the Lantz area. Mr. Calimer graduated from Thurmont High School with the class of 1939. He served with the United States Navy from 1942 - 1946, as a machinist mate, serving in Pearl Harbor, HI. Mr. Calimer was a Sports Director for the Department of Army at Fort Ritchie for 36 years. He also worked on the construction of Site R, and was a guard at the tower of Fort Ritchie. He was the longest tenured player for the Blue Ridge Summit Summiteers baseball team, as both player and manager, playing from 1938-1960. He continued to be active with team sports in the area, for many years. He was also a champion horseshoe player in the area and was an avid gardener. He is survived by four daughters, Susan Shatzer of Waynesboro, Linda Bernard of Mesquite, TX, Dawn Markus of Waynesboro, and Kim Calimer of Chambersburg; one son, Ricky Calimer; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Gill of Hagerstown; two brothers, Robert "Bud" Calimer, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Thaddeus Calimer of Lantz, MD; a special friend, Dorothy Martin of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Mark Calimer; three sisters, Nellie Stottlemyer, Alma Wagness, and Rosie Holtz; and four brothers, Harvey Calimer, Calvin Calimer, infant Samuel Calimer, and infant Gerald Calimer. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 23, 2006, in Germantown Church of God, 16924 Raven Rock Road, Cascade, MD, with Pastor Ernest E. Pletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery, adjacent to the church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday evening, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S.
