Description	:	Herbert Leslie Johnson, the son of Herman and Margaret (Saathoff) Johnson, was born March 5, 1909, at Fairfield, Nebraska. He departed this life on Tuesday, August 18, 1987, at the University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 13 days. Herbert attended Weber School District #57. On February 7, 1935, he was united in marriage to Velma Leona Dunkle at the Christian Church Parsonage at Central City. To this union was born three sons: Herbert Dean, Darrel Lee and Rollan Wayne. In 1942 the family moved to Central City. They... Read More	Herbert Leslie Johnson, the son of Herman and Margaret (Saathoff) Johnson, was born March 5, 1909, at Fairfield, Nebraska. He departed this life on Tuesday, August 18, 1987, at the University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 13 days. Herbert attended Weber School District #57. On February 7, 1935, he was united in marriage to Velma Leona Dunkle at the Christian Church Parsonage at Central City. To this union was born three sons: Herbert Dean, Darrel Lee and Rollan Wayne. In 1942 the family moved to Central City. They returned to Clay County in 1943 and lived east of Edgar until Herb's semi-retirement in 1981. Since that time the couple made their home in Edgar. In his youth, Herb accepted Christ and spent much time with his father building and working on the church. Herb farmed his entire life, but took time to enjoy the outdoors, fishing, hunting and sports. Herb gave unselfishly of his time and labor to many organizations. He was a member of the Lions Club for 40 years, served as president of the REA Board for 25 of his 35 year membership. Herb was a very close and loving family man. He loved everyone dearly and will be sadly missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love him. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Margaret. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Velma; sons, Dean, Darrel and Rollie and families; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Marie Horner of Davenport, Martha Stahnke of Fairfield, Lena Johnson of Edgar and Lois Dilky of Big Springs; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Friday, August 21, 1987, 10 a.m. at the Urbauer-Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Edgar. The Rev. Forrest Witt and Rev. William Speake were the officiants.
