Loomis, died at 4:28 a.m. August 20, 1988, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, 1001 E. Pennsylvania. He was born May 1, 1908, in Walnut, Kan., to George and Emma Long Hornbeck. He was a resident of Ottumwa most of his life. He was an employee of John Deere Ottumwa Works for 26 years, retiring in 1970. He was a past president and member of United Auto Workers Local 74. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Adelide Marsh of Springfield, Mo., Eleanor Ann Martin of Yates Center, Kan., Marian “Skip” Smith of Ottumwa; three stepsons, Larry and Gary Pierson of Newton, Donald Pierson of Ottumwa; 26 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Hosekoester [sic] of Anchorage, Alaska. The service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Leonard Sammon officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Poling, Harry Ross, Chris Brown, Fred Harness, Paul Heckart and Russ Rodus.
