BLAKE H.P. Blake Pioneer To Kansas In 1871 Was Laid To Rest Here Last Friday Herbert Percy Blake was born May 12, 1856 in Stanstead Co. Canada East. His parents moved to Kansas in 1871 and settled on a farm four miles east of Glasco, where he lived until he moved to town, except for two years spent on a homestead in Mitchell County. Being here in an early day, he saw the country grow and develop into a fruitful community. He did his part in this growth by helping with the erection of many of the farm buildings in the neighborhood. Loving music and having the ability, he sang much for his own pleasure and for the pleasure of others. He was united in marriage to Minnie Cool in 1884 to which union three children were born: Percy Noble of Willow Springs, Missouri; Cool Fenton of Glasco; and a third son dying in infancy. In October 1908 he moved to town and resided there until his death. He loved his home and made friends and acquaintances welcome by his generous hospitality. He united with the Methodist church under the pastorate of Rev. Taylor, and was a regular attendant as long as his health permitted. He always lent his influence to any movement that was for the betterment of the town and community. He has been a continuous member of the Odd Fellows lodge at Delphos for nearly 45 years, having joined in the fall of 1892. He died at his home in Glasco April 21, 1937 at the age of eighty years, eleven months and nine days. Though not being so well for a few days, he had been down town only the day before for his mail and his death came as a shock to his many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Friday afternoon with C.D. Gambriel, pastor, in charge, the Odd Fellows lodge of Delphos conducting the grave side ritual service. The music was furnished by a mixed quartet from the Methodist church and his five grandsons and a nephew acted as pall bearers.
