Wilkens, a resident of Garfield township, passed away at the Hawarden hospital at 2:50 Tuesday afternoon from blood poisoning, Mr. Wilkens was cut slightly on his left hand by the broken edge of a milk pail when a cow kicked him on June 27th. Wilkens, a resident of Garfield township, passed away at the Hawarden hospital at 2:50 Tuesday afternoon from blood poisoning, Mr. Wilkens was cut slightly on his left hand by the broken edge of a milk pail when a cow kicked him on June 27th. A few, days later blood poisoning developed and although he received medical attention at once his case proved a stubborn one, and Saturday he was brought to, the Hawarden hospital in order that he might have the best of care. He had a high temperature at that time and the poison had spread through his entire, system and this together with the intense heat made his condition critical and he was unable to throw off the poison that had gathered in his system. Herman Christian-Wilkens was born at Lincoln, Tama county, Iowa, March 8, 1884, and died July 20, 1926, and so was 42 years, 4 months and 12 days old at the time of his death. He made his home in Tama county until 1908 when he came to Hawarden. He was united in marriage with Miss Edna C. Stoltenberg Nov 29, 1911, and this union was blessed with seven children. Since his marriage he has been farming the H.A. Stoltenberg farm in Garfield township, nine miles-northeast of Hawarden. He-is survived by his wife and seven children, Walter, aged 14; Lucile, aged 12; Wilmer, aged 10; Lester, aged 8; Fern, aged 6; Harriet, aged 4; and Ruth, aged 2. He is also survived by one brother Emil of Lincoln, Iowa, and one sister, who resides at Guernsey, Iowa. Death at any time seems sad but it seem unusually so when a man is taken in the prime of life and leaves a family of growing. children without the care of a father. Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife and children who, have been robbed of the companionship and help of a kind and loving husband and father. Funeral services, were held at the Methodist church at 2:30 this afternoon with Rev, Maurice P. Arrasmith of Sheldon, district superintendent of the Sheldon Methodist district, in charge. Rev. J.W. LaGrone, pastor of the local Methodist church, was to have been in charge of the services but owing to the tragedy in his home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Arrasmith kindly consented to take charge, of the service. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery in this city. The Independent (Hawarden, Iowa) 7/22/1926
