Description	:	Private services were held for Herman Stroman, Jr. who, having been in declining health, died at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center early Friday morning, Feb. 13, 2004. He attained the age of 86 years, six months and 26 days. Herman E. Stroman, Jr. was born Jul 17, 1917 in Hartford, SD. He was the son of Herman A. and Minnie (Plucker) Stroman. He attained the age of 86 years, six months and 26 days. Herman E. Stroman, Jr. was born Jul 17, 1917 in Hartford, SD. He was the son of Herman A. and Minnie (Plucker) Stroman. After spending some years in the Beloit, IA orphanage he was raised by Julius and Anna Dumke as a foster son. He attended grade school in District #84 near Chancellor. On Sep. 26, 1940 he was united in marriage to Agnes Grace VanBuren in Lennox. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Pasadena, CA where they were employed at the "Holland Dutch Dairy". In 1944 they returned to South Dakota and started farming. In 1959 they moved into Chancellor where he was employed at Farmers Oil Co for 22 years. After his retirement they moved to the Gardenview Apartments in Chancellor, which were named after the beautiful gardens he raised while living there. His death ended a marriage of over 63 years. Herman was a member of the Chancellor Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, several years as assistant chief. He had three hobbies: fishing, making horseradish for his friends, and race cars. Besides his foster parents and their three children; he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Jean; one grandson, Ricky Gene; four brothers and two sisters. Grateful for having shared his life are Agnes, his wife of 63 years; his son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Betty Stroman of Chancellor; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister: Matie Reinke of Williston, ND.
