Read More	Herman E. Rhue CAMBRIDGE - Herman Eugene Rhue of Hurlock died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at Dorchester Memorial Hospital. He was 73. Born Dec. 2, 1928, he was the son of the late Herman A. Rhue and Eunice Todd Rhue. As a young man, he worked with his father on their dairy farm in Hurlock. He later worked for the Wilson Oil Company in Hurlock where he made many friends. He was fondly known by his friends as "Daddy Rhue." Mr. Rhue was a truly dedicated fireman. He was a 44-year member of the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company, during which time he held many offices, including chief for seven years. He was also a member of the Dorchester County Firemen's Association for many years, where he served in many offices, including president; member of the Eastern Shroe Firemen's Association, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1986; member of the Maryland State Firemen's Association, where he served on many committees, including the Executive Committee for nine years, the Training Committee, chairman of the Rural Water Supply Committee and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1986; and member of the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, where he worked as an instructor for various fire classes across the Eastern Shore. In 1978, he was the state of Maryland's first recipient of the Fireman of the Year Award. He was a member of Unity-Washington United Methodist Church in Hurlock where he had been a member for more than 50 years. He served the church in many capacities, including trustee, church school superintendent and on the Building Committee for the Fellowship Hall expansion in 1957. He was a member and past officer of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He served on the Dorchester County Election Board and worked as chief election judge for the town of Hurlock for many years. He is survived by his wife Martha "Patty" Rhue of Hurlock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael E. and Pamela Rhue of Blades, Del., and Jerry L. and Shelby Rhue Sr. of Hurlock; one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Terry Vincent of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Jerry L. Rhue Jr. and Kelsie A. Vincent; one sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and William Naugle of Hurlock; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a viewing today from 6-9 p.m. at Unity-Washington United Methodist Church in Hurlock, where a memorial service will be held by the Maryland State Firemen's Association at 7:30 p.m. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Unity-Washington Church, where the Rev. Ruth Tull will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Lloyd R. Foard. Burial will follow in Unity-Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company Truck Fund, P.O. Box 178, Hurlock, MD 21643 or to the Unity-Washington United Methodist Church Pew Fund, P.O. Box 298, Hurlock, MD 21643. The Zeller Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
