Description	:	Herman Gengerke was born June 18, 1850, in Kreis, Niestadt, Province West Pruesen, German. Came to America in 1872. He lived in the state of Minnesota one year, moving from there to Oshkosh, Wis., where on Dec. 26, 1873, he was united in marriage to Minnie Schornack. They resided in Oshkosh until the fall of 1887, when they came to Groton, South Dakota, settling on their farm five miles northwest of Groton, where they lived until last fall, when they moved to this city. He lived in the state of Minnesota one year, moving from there to Oshkosh, Wis., where on Dec. 26, 1873, he was united in marriage to Minnie Schornack. They resided in Oshkosh until the fall of 1887, when they came to Groton, South Dakota, settling on their farm five miles northwest of Groton, where they lived until last fall, when they moved to this city. Herman Gengerke died on the 17th day of April, at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 29 days. He leaves to mourn his loss, besided his wife, five sons, John, Charles, Gust. and Frank, all of Groton and Herman of Englevale, N. D., and three daughters, Mrs. L. A. Schornack and Mrs. Wm. Dobberpuhl of Groton and Mrs. H. B. Peterson of Columbia. Three sons died in infancy. Deceased was one of the progressive farmers of this community, was a kind and devoted husband and father and a true neighbor and friend. The Independent joins his many friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved family. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. F. E. Wilke officiating. Interment was made in the Groton Union cemetery.
