Description	:	Herman Limke, oldest son of George and Caroline Limke, was born March 25, 1868, in West Union, Fayette county, and passed to his reward on Sunday Jan 11, 1931, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Frank Gehringer, in St. Marys, aged 63 years, 9 months and 17 days. Herman moved with his parents to this community when a lad of 17 years and settled on a farm near St. Marys. Herman moved with his parents to this community when a lad of 17 years and settled on a farm near St. Marys. Ten years later in May, 1895, he was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie Miller who preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1928. No children were born to this union. Forty-six years of Herman Limkes life were spent in this community and during that period he was an active aggressive worker for all that tends to the up-building and the good of his town and the community. Ever honest, dependable and progressive his name was always found with those of others with whom he worked in support of every good enterprise that has come to St. Marys. The older citizens of the community will best remember Herman Limke during the years when he worked among and with them always active, a hard worker and above all cheerful and agreeable, a friend to all and everybody his friend. About twenty years ago he founded the St. Marys Lumber Co. which business was handled under his name and continued under his management until about 1920 at which time on account of failing health he was forced to give up the work. Since that time he made a brave but losing fight to regain his health but in spite of all that could be done he grew more helpless in body and for the past four years has been forced to spend these last years in a wheel-chair. During this period of his life he has been tenderly cared for by his brothers and sisters for periods of about two months at each home where loving hands and hearts have been glad to minister to one who in turn gave to them a wealth of love, a cheerful disposition and a most unusual patience all of which has not only endeared him to his own but to every man, woman and child in the community who will always revere the memory of Herman Limke. He was devoted to his church and when able to do so was faithful and regular in his attendance and loyal in his support of its activities. The funeral services were held in the church of the Immaculate Conception at St. Marys at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 14 conducted by his pastor.
