Description	:	Herman was born May, 16, 1927 in Academy, South Dakota, the son of Anton and Mary Hosek. He was raised on a farm near the Bijou Hills. Herman was the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Platte High School in 1945 and joined the Army, serving in the Philippines. Herman was an excellent saxophone player and played big band music in several bands. One of the bands he played in had a beautiful piano player by the name of Aileen Brewer. She fell in love with his saxophone playing and then with him. They got married in 1951 and continued to... Read More	Herman was born May, 16, 1927 in Academy, South Dakota, the son of Anton and Mary Hosek. He was raised on a farm near the Bijou Hills. Herman was the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Platte High School in 1945 and joined the Army, serving in the Philippines. Herman was an excellent saxophone player and played big band music in several bands. One of the bands he played in had a beautiful piano player by the name of Aileen Brewer. She fell in love with his saxophone playing and then with him. They got married in 1951 and continued to play in local bands. In fact, they even played for their own 50th wedding anniversary. Herman and Aileen lived in Yankton, where he worked at Sears until 1959 when they moved to Winner. He worked at J.C. Penny's until 1964 when he joined Ranchers National Bank. He was well-loved by the Winner community, where he always had a warm smile and a kind word for everyone. He retired May 1990. He is survived by his wife, Aileen Hosek; his children, David (Darla) Hosek of Lawrence, KS; Diane (Victor) Nemec of Holabird, SD; Duane Hosek of Rapid City, SD; Cheryl Hosek of Winner, SD; Bruce Hosek of Honolulu, HI; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Herman is preceded in death by his parents, Anton & Mary (Kott) Hosek, his brothers, William, Alvin, Ben and James, and his sisters Rose Girton, Clara Sip, Grace Gau and Agnes Koenig.
