Description	:	Pioneer Local Merchant Dies Herman Schipfer, Businessman for past 60 years succumbs here Herman Jacob Schipfer, 81, died at 7 o'clock Sunday morning at the Sigourney hospital after an illness of two weeks duration. He was born in Sigourney March 20, 1864, the son of Frances Andrew and Amelia Knape Schipfer and with the exception of one year spent in the west, he spent his entire life in Sigourney. Read More	Pioneer Local Merchant Dies Herman Schipfer, Businessman for past 60 years succumbs here Herman Jacob Schipfer, 81, died at 7 o'clock Sunday morning at the Sigourney hospital after an illness of two weeks duration. He was born in Sigourney March 20, 1864, the son of Frances Andrew and Amelia Knape Schipfer and with the exception of one year spent in the west, he spent his entire life in Sigourney. He attended his early education in the Sigourney schools. In 1881 he went to Wyoming on the Government survey in company of Samuel Brunt. After returning to Sigourney he entered business with his father when he was 17 years old and has been in the merchandise business for the past sixty years and was active until his last illness. On November 30,1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Jessie Hollingsworth and they came to Sigourney to make their home. He was not affiliated with any church, but believed that Jesus Christ was the son of the living God in life after death, a hope for happiness beyond this life, the equality of man and that religious duties consisted in doing justice to all men at all times. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Francis, Fred and Oscar, and three children died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, one sister Clara Schipfer, two brothers, Eugene and Louis, all of Sigourney. Contributor: (47492260)
