Read More	Cedar County News, Hartington, NE, Thursday, October 5, 1950 Herman Becker Killed on Road Near Niobrara Brother of Local Women Was Former Business Man Here Herman Becker, 34, former Hartington business man, was killed instantly late Saturday evening in a car-truck accident about a mile and a half east of Niobrara. The accident happened when Becker was returning to his farm near O'Neill with a load of lumber in his truck. He and his driver, Charles Gilkinson, stopped to adjust the load of lumber. A car drive by Norris McColly, 17, of Niobrara, crashed into the rear of the truck driving Mr. Becker against the lumber protruding from the back of the truck. Gilkinson was able to jump clear and escaped injury. According to reports received here the coroner's inquest decided that the driver of the car was blinded by the lights of an approaching vehicle and did not see the truck in time to stop. Funeral Tuesday Funeral services for Mr. Becker were held Tuesday morning at St. Rose Catholic church in Crofton with Rev. Bernard Westerman officiating. Burial was made in the parish cemetery, with full military honors. Pallbearers were: Tony Hegge, William Hegge, Alphonse Becker, and James, Rollie and Duane Eickhoff. Herman, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Becker of Fordyce was born September 23, 1916. His entire life with the exception of the years spent in the army was spent in Cedar and Knox counties. After leaving the home farm he came to Hartington where he was a partner of William Dresden in the B & D Service Station from 1940 to 1943. He then entered the army and after his discharge returned to Hartington. He was married to Miss Agnes Hegge of Crofton March 4, 1946. For several years he operated a recreation parlor at Center, which he sold last winter and this spring moved to a farm in western Knox county near O'Neill. He is survived by his wife Agnes; two children, one three and the other six months of age; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Becker of Fordyce; three brothers, Gerald of Center, Adolph of Seattle, Wash., and Richard of Pickstown, S. D.; five sisters, Mrs. William (Rose) Dresden of Hartington, Mrs. Martin Eickhoff, Hartington, Mrs. A. A. Jalbert of Oregon, Mrs. William (Josephine) Raduechel of Hartington, and Mary at home. A brother, Tony, preceded him in death. The Creighton News, Knox, NE, Thursday, October 12, 1950, pg. 1, col. 2 Herman Becker Funeral Held at Crofton October 3 Funeral services for Herman Becker, former Center resident killed in a car-truck accident near Niobrabra Sept. 30, were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 9:30 at St. Rose church in Crofton. The Rev. Bernard Westermann officiated. Interment was in St. Rose cemetery. Crofton Legion post No 128 took part in the military rites. Herman Becker, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Becker, was born on Sept. 23, 1915, at Fordyce. He lived in the Fordyce and Hartington community until he entered service for World War II. He served five years in the Navy. On March 4, 1946, he was united in marriage to Agnes Hegge and made their home in Center until last spring when they moved to a ranch 17 miles northeast of O'Neill. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary Dean, age 4, and Darrel Dale, seven months, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Becker of Fordyce; five sisters and three brothers, including Gerry of Center.
