Read More	Herman Meier died at his home in Peoples Township on Sunday, his seventy first birthday. The funeral was held on Tuesday from the German Lutheran church in Bouton. Rev J.P. The text on which his sermon in German was based is found in first John first chapter and seventh verse which is as follows: The blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin. The deceased Herman Meier, Sr., was born June 12, 1828, at Meggerdorf, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. April 24th 1853, he was united in holy matrimony with Miss Anna Rahn at Meggerdorf. This union was blessed with seven children. The deceased emigrated with his wife and children. Twenty five years ago he came to this country, arriving in this country in 1875. During his entire residence in this place for a period of more than a quarter of a century, he has been constantly engaged in farming, in which he was very successful. Last fall he was taken ill with icterus in connection with dropsy and though all possible was done that human hands could do, his system did not respond to medicines and he gradually failed. On June 12th the day of his seventy first birthday at 12:30 he sank away and the gracious God relieved him from all earthly care and sufferings. Mr. Meier has been a constant member of the Lutheran church and died as we believe in the true Christian faith. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, who has been a true helpmeet so many years, seven children, thirty two grandchildren and other relatives. ### Anna Rahn and Herman Meier, along with seven known children, immigrated to the United States from Germany aboard the SS Frisia. The SS Frisia was under the command of Master/Captain Emil Meier. It is unknown whether the surname was a coincidence or if he was a relative. SS Frisia's Departure Ports: Hamburg & Havre Arrival Date: 4 June 1874 Arrival Port: New York City, New York County, New York, United States The Meier family was in "steerage" or third class like most immigrants were forced to travel whether due to financial circumstances or other reasons. On the Meier family's voyage, the SS Frisia carried 545 passengers, which was actually a very modest number of passengers compared to most immigration voyages. However, almost all immigrant ships carried a combination of cargo and passengers. The number of passengers was generally dictated by the amount of room left after cargo was booked. The steamship lines then sold any excess space to additional passengers to maximize profits.
