Description	:	Georgetown County, SC Herman Reid Wiggins Jr. drowned in Santee River Saturday afternoon, January 25, 1964. Young Wiggins and an older brother, James Ashley Wiggins, 24, were hunting and fishing in Santee River. Their small motorboat overturned about five miles west of the bridge on U. S. Highway 17. Ashley was unable to save Herman. The body was recovered about 7 p.m. by a group of volunteer searchers and deputies aided by the Georgetown Rescue Squad. Herman was born August 7, 1949, in the Saints Delight section of Georgetown County. He was a son of Herman Reid Wiggins Sr. and Mrs. Sadie Ray Wiggins. He was in the seventh grade at Andrews School, and was a member of the Senior Youth Department of Saints Delight Church. Survivors besides his father and mother include two brothers, Winford Wiggins and James Ashley Wiggins, both of Georgetown; four sisters, Mrs. Gloria W. Cooper of Jamestown, Mrs. Eula Mae W. Brady of Laurel, Miss., Misses Janie Wiggins and Ann Wiggins, both of the home; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Ray of Andrews. Funeral services were Monday, January 27, 1964, in Saints Delight Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Rev. Lacey Drew officiated. Burial, directed by Mayer Funeral Home, followed in Wiggins Cemetery.
