Description	:	Herman Verbeek, 80, who has lived in Boone county for more than 30 years, died at his home Saturday. Mr. Verbeek was born at Enschede, Holland, and came to America with his parents and a sister when a boy of nine years and settled at Omaha. He was married to Lula Maud White, March 16, 1898 at West Point and started farming at Scribner. Read More	Herman Verbeek, 80, who has lived in Boone county for more than 30 years, died at his home Saturday. Mr. Verbeek was born at Enschede, Holland, and came to America with his parents and a sister when a boy of nine years and settled at Omaha. He was married to Lula Maud White, March 16, 1898 at West Point and started farming at Scribner. He continued farming until 1919 when he moved to Boone county and lived on a farm ten miles west of Albion. In 1928 he became custodian of the Boone county court house, which position he filled until 1941 when he retired. Surviving are his wife, Lula, five daughters, Mrs. Claus Poppe, Scribner; Mrs. Frank Field, Albion; Mrs. William Turpen, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Florentine Smith, Omaha and Mrs. Otto Lebduska, Tekamah; two sons, John Verbeek, Hooper and Frank Verbeek, Cedar Falls, Iowa. He is also survived by a nephew Irvin Thinker who was reared in their home at Dalton; one sister, Mrs. Christina Wooldrik of Scribner, thirty five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. from the Smith funeral home with Rev. Nixon Knight officiating. Rev. Knight sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and Mrs. Melvin Atwater and Rev. Knight sang “Face to Face”. Burial was made at Scribner. (Albion News – Albion, Nebraska – February 23, 1950)
