Description	:	Hermann Wieting was born in the village of Sandhatten, the Parish of Hatten and the Granduche of Oldenburg, Germany to Johann Diedrich Wieting (Sept 30, 1819 - July 24, 1884)and Anna Catherine Margaret Beckermann (July 11, 1828 - November 20, 1908). He grew up as a farmer and forester as did his father and grandfather. He left for America to be a farmer rather than work in the forests. Read More	Hermann Wieting was born in the village of Sandhatten, the Parish of Hatten and the Granduche of Oldenburg, Germany to Johann Diedrich Wieting (Sept 30, 1819 - July 24, 1884)and Anna Catherine Margaret Beckermann (July 11, 1828 - November 20, 1908). He grew up as a farmer and forester as did his father and grandfather. He left for America to be a farmer rather than work in the forests. It is not known when he came first to America but he was listed as a passenger on the German Steamship Braunschweig arriving in Baltimore on May 3, 1883. Another passenger was Sophia Margaret Lingnau who also took a job in Hooper NE working at the Hooper Hotel while Herman worked as a common laborer and farmer. They were married 4 years later May 10, 1887. They bought 160 acre farm in Stanton County NE on March 19, 1889 but moved to Oklahoma as they did not like the harsh winters February 23, 1892. One son was born in NE and 5 additonal children were born in Oklahoma. They bought 81 acres 5 miles SE of Okarche along today's Hwy 3, which would have cut off the southwest tip of his land. After 3 years of drought he went back with his family to NE to complete his citizenship and look for work. He sold his land in OK on July 29, 1897. He rented a farm and 6 more children were born in NE. After 9 years on this farm, things were better for him and they purchased a 320 acre farm 2 miles nw of Meadow Grove, NE until he sold this farm March 5, 1918. He purchased another 320 acre farm SW of Meadow Grove. He retired and sold the farm in 1920 and moved into a house in Norfolk, NE. He bought back the farm in a falling economy in 1926 and rented it out to his son Frederick.Hermann and Sophia spent the rest of their lives in Norfolk. Sophia died in the house of cancer at the age of 63. Herman continued to live there for several years until 1935. He spent his time living with his children and died in the home of his grandson and his wife, John and Vesta Lulow at the age of 88,due to complications of old age.
