Description	:	Herschel A. Libey, 85, Retired Police Detective Herschel A. Libey, 85, a retired Spokane police detective, died of complications of Parkinson's disease Monday at his home in Colfax. He worked for the police department in Spokane for 27 years and retired as a detective in 1975. He was born Dec. 10, 1914, in Potlatch to Clyde and Ona Smith. Libey, 85, a retired Spokane police detective, died of complications of Parkinson's disease Monday at his home in Colfax. He worked for the police department in Spokane for 27 years and retired as a detective in 1975. He was born Dec. 10, 1914, in Potlatch to Clyde and Ona Smith. He graduated from Moscow High School in 1935 and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the depression. He served in the 82nd Fighter Control during World War II. He rescued fighter pilots in Africa, France, Italy and Germany. He married Hattie Ritter in 1947. She died in 1982. He spent his winters in California, where he enjoyed playing golf and spending time in the sun. He also liked to travel and had taken cruises to Mexico, China, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. He became ill with Parkinson's 15 years ago and remained in his own home in Spokane for 45 years until moving to Colfax late last year. He enjoyed family genealogy and in later years he enjoyed following his grandson's sports activities. He also like spending time with his great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church in Spokane, the Eagles, Spokane Police Golf and Spokane Footprinters, and served as the first president of the Spokane Police Credit Union. Survivors names omitted per findagrave policy. Two memorial services will be held. The first is scheduled at noon Saturday at the Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church and the second is at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Community Bible Church in Colfax.
