Born February 16, 1944, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late William Claude and Pearl (Ross) Battle. He was a retired sergeant with the Spartanburg City Fire Department, and the founder and former operator of Battle's Cleaning Service. He was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, former choir member, and assistant recorder of the Sunday School Department. Read More	Herschel Lawson Battle, 63, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Monday, May 21, 2007, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born February 16, 1944, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late William Claude and Pearl (Ross) Battle. He was a retired sergeant with the Spartanburg City Fire Department, and the founder and former operator of Battle's Cleaning Service. He was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, former choir member, and assistant recorder of the Sunday School Department. He was a member of the Shrine Potentate Guard Motorcycle Unit, Hillbilly Clan, Boiling Springs Masonic Lodge #413 AFM, past Grand Master, past patron of the Boiling Springs Eastern Star, and a former member of the Boiling Springs Lion's Club. Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Seay) Battle; a son, William "Billy" Battle and his wife Barbara "BJ" of Boiling Springs; a sister, Peggy Biggerstaff of Lake Bowen; a granddaughter, Stacy Lynn Battle of Spartanburg; and the family pet, "Nikki". Visitation was 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. James W. Crocker and the Rev. Scott Linnerud. Burial was in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens with the presentation of the American flag by the Spartanburg City Fire Department Honor Guard.
