It says, Hester Ann Smith was born on March 27th, 1854, and died at her home southwest of Leon, July 26th, 1918, being at the time of her death 64 years and four months of age. When 14 years of age she accepted Christ and united with the Ringgold City Baptist church and transferred her membership to the Palestine Baptist church 32 years ago and was always faithful to her church and the great ruler of the universe.... She was united in marriage to Henry Akes 44 years ago. To this union twelve children were born, three of who have preceded her. Her husband died four years ago last March. Since that time she has been awaiting her time. All the children living except Lew who resides in South Dakota, and John who is in France in the service of his country, were present at the funeral services and were the pallbearers with one nephew, Services were held at Palestine church Sunday, July 28th, 1918, at 3 o'clock conducted by Rev. Chas. W. Reeder. Many of the neighbors and friends were unable to get into the house. She was a good mother and respected by all as the many beautiful floral offerings testied.
